Jason -
I run IDL 5.0.2 on a PB 3400c/240 with 144 Mbyte of memory (we show
long, large-format movies using CW_ANIMATE) and have run into no problems
so far.
The only "problem" I have run into is the ^%$& dongle hanging off the
ADB port, which is (+) on the side, rather than the back of the PB 3400,
but
which (-) requires you to open a little door to access it.
If you'd like to run some sample code, give me a call.

I use IDL 5.0.2 and ENVI 2.7 on my PowerBook 5300ce and PowerMac 7500
every day running MacOS 8 with no problems at all. Be sure you have at
least 32 MB RAM on the system. It works fine with 32 MB, but that's the
bare minimum as far as I'm concerned.
Since you haven't already purchased the hardware, take a look at the
following URL http://ogrady.com/3500.stm for an upgraded 3400 to be
released on 10/23/97. The site is dedicated to PowerBook issues.
