I've dallied briefly with it in demo mode, but have abandoned evaluation
in favour of the CL version and IDL. It seems pretty good, but is only
really designed for out of the box use rather than application development.
When chatting with PVI staff about what I wanted to do (develop my own
apps for getting data out of MRI volumes), they said I'd be better off
with CL over P&C. Best way is to get a demo from PVI: 30 days free
evaluation with all the manual sets, just drop them a line.

I have dabbled briefly with PC, and found it somewhat lacking for my needs. There
are a couple of people here that use it, though (we have both Wave CL and PC). I
would say that PC is great for those who want to do simple kinds of plots, and
don't really care about too much customization. Or for those who need PV-Wave like
features only once every couple of months or so. It really is much easier to use
if you don't know CL. I found PC tiring - dragging that mouse around when I knew
how simple my task would be if only I could type it in.
Paraphrased from the PV Wave CL Training class notes:
- Wave CL is a command level interactive system. It's also a programming language.
- Wave PC is for the non-programmer, is easy to learn, and has about 80% of CL's
functionality.
If you're using Wave for daily analysis or visualization, and desire to customize
things for your data, plot style, etc., you probably need CL. If you have someone
in your group with a programmers bent, they could make a WaveWidget GUI in CL to
make your customized applications easy as PC to use.
However, I would suggest calling up Visual Numerics for a free demo copy of one or
the other. That's the best way to find out what's right for you.
