IDL 5.0.3, with full support for all platforms, is now available for
download from Research Systems' anonymous ftp site, ftp.rsinc.com,
in the directory /pub/idl. The following is a summary of the
enhancements and problems corrected from version 5.0.2 to 5.0.3.
For complete details of these changes, and other changes made from
the release of IDL 5.0 to IDL version 5.0.3, please refer to the file
503NEW.TXT in the ftp download area.
ALL PLATFORMS
* The CELL_FILL keyword to CONTOUR now works properly in all cases
where the contour is plotted on top of a map with a rectangular
grid and when plotting to the Z-buffer device.
* A new C_CHARTHICK keyword has been added to the CONTOUR routine
to annotate contour labels.
* The XDISPLAYFILE, XPALETTE, and XSURFACE routines have been
modified to allow them to be called from within a modal widget.
* The table widget now automatically unsets any cells selected
for editing before updating the table programmatically.
* A new BOX_AXES keyword has been added to the MAP_GRID procedure
to specify the width of a "box" surrounding the map window.
* The MAP_GRID procedure now checks text labels to ensure that
they are contained within the limits of a map.
* The MAP_SET procedure has been corrected for cylindrical and
pseudo-cylindrical projections with points that fall exactly on
the meridian, 180 degrees from the center of the map projection.
* The SVDFIT routine with the LEGENDRE keyword set now returns
correct polynomials in all cases.
* IDL now properly checks the number of arguments required for object
procedure methods that have the same name as IDL system procedures.
* New NX and NY keywords are added to the TRIGRID function to control
the output grid size in the x and y directions, respectively.
UNIX PLATFORMS
* The shell script that starts IDL has been enhanced to properly set
the path to the shared library libtt on HP/UX systems.
* The XPrinter software (from Bristol Technology) has been updated
to solve problems associated with printing on certain HPGL/RTL
plotters in TRUE_COLOR mode.
