IDL or PV~Wave? [message #1041] Wed, 19 May 1993 19:55

I'm considering purchasing either IDL or PV~Wave for some large modeling and
visualization applications, and would like to know if anyone has some
suggestions as to which package they like better. I understand that PV~Wave
is more or less an independent offshoot of the original IDL code, and from
the looks of things they are tightly competitive. They both seem to have the
functionality I will require, so I am looking for user input on both
packages.

I have literature on both, but I only have a demo CD of PV~Wave, which has,
for the moment, leaned me in its direction. Any comments, positive or
negative, on either package are welcome. Feedback on ease of use,
robustness and versatility of the command language, processing speed, and
such are requested.

BTW I have read the FAQ, but am looking for a more opinionated view! The
target platform is Sun4m.

Thanks,
