How about something like this:

SET_PLOT,'PS'
DEVICE,/COLOR,BITS=8

LOADCT, 3
GAMMA_CT,.7
TV, image1

LOADCT, 3
GAMMA_CT,.3
TV, image2

DEVICE,/CLOSE
