Isn't that the truth! I think it was Yogi Berra who said that
"It's what you know that ain't so that hurts you."
Paradoxically, I find myself using the on-line help more now
than when I was learning IDL, for exactly this reason. In
my line of work, where you don't have to go to too much trouble
to look foolish, it's easy to think you "know" something.
I've gotten into the habit of looking at on-line help almost
every time I respond on this newsgroup in the attempt to
cut down on the nonsense.
I think either RSI "sneaks" a lot of really good features
into the software and doesn't let us know about it, or
I don't read the New Release information closely enough.
But I am often surprised by what I don't know. :-(
And now, having had a look at the new features in IDL 5.1,
I find I am going to have to re-invent myself once again.
But this time I'm going to reincarnate as an object. I figure
that might help some. :-)
