IDL 4 could read Wave 3 files because RSI had just sold IDL to
Precision Visuals and they knew *exactly* what the format of the
SAVE file was. By this time I'm sure they don't have a clue what
the format of a SAVE file is.

I think your only hope is to use those old versions of the
software to open the files and save the data as something
everybody can read. Sorry.
