IDL and PV-WAVE still share a lot of the same functions and syntax.

There is an IDL FAQ available at
http://ww2.sd.cybernex.net/~mgs/idl_faq.html, and a 2-year old PV-WAVE FAQ
available at http://ww2.sd.cybernex.net/~mgs/pvwave_faq.html . If anyone
wants to pick up the PV-WAVE FAQ and update it, please let me know. Also,
the IDL FAQ is undergoing some updates (multiple parts) at the moment and
should be out in a couple weeks.

David Fanning's IDL book is probably the closest thing. It's available at
