Greetings,

Be the first to email me the answer to this question...
it took me over 30 minutes to figure it out... and I will
post your name as "IDL GENTLEMAN/LADY OF THE DAY".

What is the simplest "cross-platform" method for
obtaining the present working directory?

P.S. It is not... spawn, 'pwd', pwd & print, pwd
but the syntax is very close to this.

OK, we exchanged some words, now we are even.
After I posted, I was a little bit regret. When I didn't
see your response, I felt more sorry.
Thanks Godness, you are back, now we are even, I feel better now.

You are big scientist working at NOAA with Government
huge funding and high speed machines and super information
highway, so you can afford setting a prize for the first
one knows 'cd,cur=cur' after your day-long figuring.
I have to use a MacPlus to log on at 1200 bps modem,
paid EROLS monthly for internet access, use only non graphics
interface to read the newsgroup. Reading one post costs me
huge times and money. So I'm always disappointed if that post
is useless. You asked my name and identity, I have put it
to all my post. Ding is my name, official one. I have no
choice because that was given by my mother just as you
suggested. Are you happy now? I'm a ex-student with no
job. I hope one day, I can sit inside huge government
office mansion, access internet as long as I want, post
anything as long I like, just like you. As now I cannot
do like you. I do not have that many titles as you have.
I donot have HTTP, GOV, UNIVERSITY, FAX,... I only have
one thing in your list, that is phone number. My phone number
is 428-9009. Have you got enough of my identity?

Thanks for your posts. The good thing from this incident is
exactly as I expected. Although both you and I might lost
some dignity, I am sure junk posts will be less. I bet you
will think again when you want to set this kind of prize again.

If you had just asked 'how to get the cross-platform PWD in IDL?',
I would not complain at all and would help you without a doubt.
But the thing is YOU KNEW THE ANSWER!

Anyway take it easy! You have the right and technology to
post anything you want. If you are not happy with my words,
just take them as a grain of salt.

Thanks again.

Ding

Hi!

Thanks for your qualified assessment of my intellectual capabilities.
It is good to know that someone with *all* the answers to IDL questions
does indeed exist out there on the internet. Care to disclose your
identity?

I had no idea that there was a keyword associated with the cd procedure,
and was pleased to find one when the need for a cross-platform PWD
arose. I thought I would share this with the group in case anyone
out there could use this information themselves. In the future I
will try to conform with *your* esteemed method for doing this, if you
would care to disclose what that method is... and oh! your identity?
Coward, Biomedic, or did your mother name you Ding?

P.S. If you are so concerned about wasting "everyone's" time with
useless posts (obviously I am not), then why post your critique?

David:

You're right. I'm just bothered by a problem:
how to do the fly through in a 3D image data set?
Do you have time to help me?

RSI's IDL demo gave us a 'fly through' demo,
in fact, that is not fly through, it's fly over.
It use a 2D surface array to fly over it.
What I want to do is a 3D array, user can display
iso-surface or even volume rendering, then flying
through by mouse-guiding or a predefined path.
I think the basic thing is the same, to use
3d graphics model, apply the translate, rotate, and
zoom ... methods... only thing I worry is that
the process could be very slow.

Has anyone already written similar codes? If you
dont want to share the code, please just tell me
whether it's tolerable in speed.

Thanks David, Thanks everyone!

Ding (biomedic@erols.com) must be having a terribly bad
day when he writes:

Oh, geez, Ding. Lighten up. I like the occasional humor
(and even attempt to offer a bit from time to time). It
reminds me that that this thing we spend too much of our
time doing is NOT really that important. A lesson it would
do us all well to learn over and over again.

Take a break. Go read a story to your kids. Now *there* is
something important!

Cheers,

David

The IDL preschool kid of the day is ...

Andrew F. Loughe

Congratulations, Andrew!

Please be serious to post on this newsgroup!!!
Otherwise, you waste everyone's time !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I understand why some people are stupid, but
I don't understand why they use their stupidity
to bother other people and enjoy it.
