I have recently written some stuff to do this. See:

(this wasn't the answer published earlier!)
My stuff is was written with time-longitude in mind so might prove useful.
It isn't difficult - fft does it all for you - but figuring out which
bits of the output mean what needs some wrapping up, which is what my pro's do.
Possibly even correctly...
