Hi,

I've just started using IDL 5.1 (PowerMac). I'd like to use the integrated
editor in IDL with the color syntax coding, etc. I've noticed, however, after
playing around a few minutes on it that there appears to be a bit of lag
in typing - that is, I can "outtype" the buffer in the editor. Is there
some sort of adjustment I can make to correct this? Does anyone
else using IDL on PowerMacs see this sort of delay? Typing in other
apps (BBEdit, SimpleText, etc.) is fine.

I'm using OS 8.1 on a G3 Series Powerbook, so speed and memory should
not be an issue here. :-)

Thanks,

-- Greg

I was given a direct URL to go to for the download, and unfortunately I've
deleted the
address so I can't give it to you. Perhaps one of the folks at RSI will
forward it to
you...?

I've tried to use the IDLDE on the Mac several times, but keep going back
to BBEdit. The IDLDE consistently screws up indents and resizes my editor
window to the size of the last opened widget. This seems to be worse when
your files get transferred back and forth between UNIX and Windows
systems, which is pretty much a daily occurrence for me. When your last
widget is a small dialog box, it's a little tough to edit within a 4x6
area. I complained about this and several other problems with the editor
for the Mac last year, but not much has happened, yet. Maybe we can talk
them into doing a a plug-in for BBEdit.

Sean was asking about the patch that Greg Arkos had gotten for IDL 5.1
for PowerMac to solve the problem with the editor being slow. I also
couldn't find it so I e-mailed RSI and got the following response from
Jennifer L. in tech support:

Sure enough, it was there and worked like a champ.
