Hi Jan!
My name is David Foster, and I work in a brain imaging lab at the
University of California, San Diego. I have made many of my
routines available to the IDL community at:
ftp://bial8.ucsd.edu pub/software/idl/share/idl_share.tar.gz
There is a README file giving a short description for each routine.
In particular, there are routines for reading (READ_IMG),
creating volumes from (MAKE_VOL) and displaying (SHOW_IMG) medical
images of various formats. In particular, the SHOW_IMG program is
very useful and has many features like displaying in various formats,
writing window contents to graphics files, etc. These programs will
work on most CT and MR images, provided the following is true:
the images must be square; dimensions 64x64, 128x128, 256x256, or
512x512; 8-bit or 16-bit data; with/without leading header whose
length is not important.
I hope you find these routines useful. Let me know if you have
questions or problems. The programs were written for use on UNIX
systems (Suns specifically); many should work under Windows/Macs.
It would take some work, however, to port SHOW_IMG.
