Does anyone know of a place to get some real basic image processing
routines for IDL??

I need basic blob analysis. (connectivity/segmentation)
I want to find the objects in the field of view, and then find their
centroids and bounding boxes.

any shareware IDL stuff out there to do this?

The built-in IDL routine LABEL_REGION() will find the blobs for you.
With a couple more lines, you can easily calculate the centroids and
bounds.
