Mike,
Whatever you do, DON'T start playing with GeoTIFF, you'll be in for a few
headaches.
Anyway, for GeoTIFF formats look at :

or have a look at the adobe site and search on geotiff
http://www.adobe.com/supportservice/devrelations/resources.h tml
Sorry got to dash, if you need some more info, Ihave some basic routines for
reading simple geotiff, these may be of use... e-mail me later.
