I'm evaluating whether IDL will be useful to perform some spectral
analysis (on reflectance spectra I've collected for crops). One of the
things that initially attracted me to look into IDL was the availability
of a stepwise linear regression. I've recently learned that the
'STEPWISE' procedure has been placed in the obsolete directory (in v5)
and one of the support engineers at RSI that I contacted recommended not
using it.

Does anyone on the list perform stepwise regression with IDL. Do you
use your own code, or do you use the obsolete 'STEPWISE'. Thanks for
any help.
