Actually, there _is_ a problem with IDL running under MS-Windows.
The built-in editor has a rather small limit on the number and
size of files which it handles. To make it worse, this limit
tends to decrease during an IDL session (memory fragmentation?)
so that a file which fit perfectly well at the beginning of the
session will later give an "Out of memory error". This extremely
irritating feature has been mentioned to the good people at RSI.
Hopefully it will be fixed in the next release.

None of the problems you mention has anything to do with IDL. If
you're out of memory, buy more memory or get more swap space. On Suns, the
number of open files and the swap space is set in the kernel and can be
reconfigured. I know that the GENERIC_SMALL kernel is inadequate. I run
the GENERIC kernel on my SPARC 10 and I have no problems with IDL.
I know of no limit on the length of files other than the size of
the disk. If you're editing large files, then you might needmore memeory
or swap space.

"Memory is better managed under OS/2"? Why do you say that?

I do know that IDL for Windows does run under OS/2 version 2.1 through it's
Windows compatibility mode. I know this isn't exactly the same thing as having
a native OS/2 application, but I thought I'd mention it.
