Non-VMS users can happily ignore this message...
We are having occasional problems with our IDL VMS license manager and would
like to know if anyone else has the same problems.
Sometimes in the middle of an IDL session we will get a message:
FLEXlm: unknown error code 10772 from VMS in connect after assign
FLEX1m: Unknown error code 10772 from VMS in 1_ether_id after sys$assign
that will repeat many times until we are finally booted out of IDL. One time
the message was slightly different.
FLEX1m: Unknown error code 436 from VMS in 1_ether_id after sys$assign
and one other time we got the following message.
; % LICENSE MANAGER: No server response after 3 attempts (3:0 minutes).
; % LICENSE MANAGER: Session will terminate after 5 more attempts
We are running on a large (28 machine) Vax cluster with both restricted
and unrestricted licenses. The problems occur with both the V3.0 and V3.1
license managers. (Both daemon servers are running at the same time
using different servers.) We haven't discovered a pattern as to when the
errors occur in terms of total number of users, or machine load. Perhaps
there is a tendency for the problem to occur when using tapedrives with IDL
or when the IDL session has been idle for a long time.
When I checked for the meaning of the error codes I get the following:
$exit 10772
%SYSTEM-F-EXBYTLM, exceeded byte count quota
$exit 436
%SYSTEM-F-NOIOCHAN, no I/O channel available
RSI didn't know what the problem was and could only suggest that we include
an error log file for the daemon server. (We haven't done that yet.)
Any insights would be appreciated.
