To whom it may concern,
I am trying to create geographic plots (i.e. with a map background) of
gridded wind vectors taken from global climate simulations. Does anyone
know how to combine either vel, velovect, or plot_field with map_set or
map_image to create these figures? Any suggestions would be greatly
appreciated.

This question (or one like it) was asked very recently, by Varavut Limpasuvan.
If your news reader will go back more than a day or two, look for the answers
that were posted then.
My answer was to change RSI's velovect slightly to remove a bug, but there
were others.
