Either I've missed an announcement or I've stumbled on 5.2 before
I was supposed to. Either way, the non-beta version is on RSI's FTP
site (ftp.rsinc.com) and includes a lot of stuff not mentioned in the
press releases I have seen thus far, especially on the object graphics
side. High points include a more object-like model rotator which
nicely encapsulates a trackball; the ability to share one object
between several models so you can have two views of the same thing;
and all sorts of goodies on the file-format front such as compressed
TIFF support.
Recommended - I even suprised myself by going to the trouble of
pfaffing about in 7-min mode to try out a new object graphics feature.
