I thought I'd pass along something I just found out the hard way:

IDL 5.2 requires the new glibc under Linux.

If you're running an older version of Slackware or RedHat, you'll
likely run into problems. The latest version of RedHat seems to work.
If you look closely in the table showing the supported versions, they
note that they used Redhat 5.1.
