IDL crashes ... short of memory? [message #1384] Tue, 12 October 1993 06:39

Hi there,

we're using IDL 3.1.1 (single CPU licence) on a IBM RS6k running AIX 3.2.3. Recently, we had IDL crashing several times on us, especially when using "call_external" (but also under normal circumstances). This seems to be linked to heavy load on the CPU - the crashes only occur when three or four sessions of IDL run simultaneously, and when large arrays of data (say, 4 MB) are used. All programs run smoothly when only a single user is on the CPU.

Has anybody observed this before? are there ways to avoid the crashes? Might this be due to insufficient swap space? Shouldn't we get some error messages when memory becomes low?

Any pointers or suggestions would be appreciated.

Cheers,
Markus
