IDL code to handle spherical coordinates? [message #1391]

I often deal with irregular data sets that reside on a global grid
of some sort and wrap around or over the North Pole. Contouring this type
of data is not a job for the faint of heart.
Has anyone got code which assists in plotting global data? IDL
doesn't have any built-in handling of spherical coordinates and this is a
real handicap for me.
