Does IDL for for MS Windows have the ability to be a server for a
client program similar to the RPC abilities under UNIX? What I would
like to know is, can a C program, for example, call IDL running as a
server and pass data and commands to IDL. The obvious application
would be to use IDL as a graphics/plotting engine from my own
applications programs without having to reinvent those abilities
myself.
I read something about DDE support, but not being MS windows
conversant I don't know what that gives me. (This inquiry is for a
co-worker - I use IDL exclusively under UNIX and VMS).
Thanks for any help,
Chris Chase
P.S.
If anyone is using idl.el (IDL editing mode for GNU Emacs) or
idl-shell.el (run IDL and debug IDL programs under GNU Emacs) I would
like some feedback/bug reports (even if you think it stinks, I would
like to know).
