I have used Spyglass Slicer, Transform and Plot and still am. I like
Spyglass's Slicer a lot. IDL's 'Slicer' is similar to Spyglass's except
Spyglass is much sophysticated and user friendly. Hope RSI will be
influenced by Fortner to come up with some comparible QUALITY applications
using IDL and the users don't have to pay an arm and leg for the product(s).
Spyglass caused about 1/4 of that of IDL.

I have used the old "Slicer," and the renamed and updated Noesys
programs,
on MacIntosh PPC systems and liked them. But frankly I see no point
for
Fortner to team up with RSI. The Fortner product is way ahead of IDL
as
far as 3D visualization goes. Maybe RSI needs Fortner technology and
Fortner needs RSI cash flow. That is the only spin I can put on this
news.
BTW, I saw them at the American Geophysical Union (AGU) meeting
in San Francisco last month, the shared booth looked awkward.

Just my 2 cents,
Doug
