Well known problem, or at least IDL knows about it. Don't use the IDL
editor for file editing. We use NOT GNU Windows editor. The problem is
when you have a file of 96 byte multiples (or at least I think it is 96).
That file is history after you GPF.
Using a separate editor solves the problem as does IDL V3.5 according to
RSI.
