Does anyone know if IDL has topographical datasets? I need to
display the elevation information over the map.

IMO IDL has no elevation dataset available. I received
an elevation data set from the eros data center
http://edcwww.cr.usgs.gov/landdaac/gtopo30/gtopo30.html
(GTOPO30 is a global digital elevation model (DEM) )
some time ago on 5 CDs with whole world coverage. For
this data set I wrote a little IDL tool to read the
files and to plot them using IDL.
