I don't know of an official archive, but as David Fanning mentioned
DejaNews is searchable.

I keep 3-6 months of the newsgroup on my system for updating the FAQ. It's
not internet searchable, or even on my web site at the moment, but it
could be with a little effort. I run daily backups, as well, so I should
have the last year or so available on those.

This brings up something I've been working on over the last few months in
my spare time. I have about 40 MB of unused space on my ISP's server, and
about 8 GB of unused space on my local systems which will be tied into my
ISP in a week or two for local hosting of a few databases and internet
projects.

IDL is the most interesting work to me, but I get requests from time to
time that put me on adventures into other areas, particularly WWW
development. Basically, I've become pretty good at WWW development over
the years, and would like to have a web site that demonstrates that,
rather than the vanilla site I have set up now.

What I'm getting at is I want to set up a full-featured site that is
IDL-centric. I'd love to hear some ideas of things that people would be
interested in seeing. I'm primarily interested in remote sensing, but have
no problems putting things up that focus in other areas.

I've discussed an IDL/Remote Sensing newsletter with a couple folks on the
newsgroup. What other areas are people interested in? Newsletters,
searchable news or articles, product or project descriptions, conversions
of projects to IDL, student graduations, job listings, consultant
listings, conferences, events, satellite launches, etc. Feel free to
respond privately if you'd like.
