In order to streamline data reduction, I am considering using LINKIMAGE
to patch the Figaro (Support: Keith Shortridge, AAO) data structure routines
onto IDL so that I can directly access my data which does not translate
to FITS format properly. This seems like 1.) an unesthetic thing to do, and
2.) a debugging nightmare.
I've got three questions for the net:
1.) Has some one already done this?
2.) Is this possible? We are running Sun OS with dynamic linking so
that presumably I can recompile the Figaro Fortran subroutines as
sharable object libraries and then use LINKIMAGE to let me call them
as if they were IDL commands. Has anyone found that this becomes a
major problem with older fortran code?
3.) It seems possible that this kluge might be useful to others
particularly considering Caltech's reliance on Figaro. Is there
anyone out there who would like to share the burden of making this
connection, particularly a Figaro programmer?
Thanks in advance. Please respond by email to:
