I don't have any ideas, but I know of some bugs in idl.el with Emacs
as well. I keep the most recent versions of idl.el and idl-shell.el
available on our servers but don't have any elisp knowledge myself.
I have been looking for someone to take over for quite some time,
and the good news is, someone qualified is now seriously considering
maintaining the IDL modes (more info after Easter).
If someone comes up with bug fixes, I will be glad to include them.
