IDL 3D surface plot [message #1402]

I am a newcomer to IDL and am having some difficulties with plotting
some three dimensional data. What I want is a surface plot of some discrete
integer, non-uniform increasing data. I have tried just passing the three
dimensional array to surface but the output is not what I want. In what
form must the array be so I can do this ???

I really dont know if this is in the faq, Is there some place were I can find shareware IDL functions and procedures.
