Err... Dave Stern?
I started programming in IDL in 1982 on a PDP-11 (not programming
continuously in IDL since though), but there are be a group of people
from LASP in Boulder, who are even earlier than that (Dave used LASP
people and LASP machines as an IDL test bed those early-80s years).

Oops, what I really meant was programmers of old IDL, regardless of their
age.
Another associativity error :-)
Thanks for checking the docs, I had checked back to 3.5 and couldn't find
it.

I just can't resist replying to this...
Do you really mean that only OLD IDL programmers can reply, or
do you mean experienced? Which brings up two questions.
1. Who is the oldest IDL programmer living?
2. Who has the most years programming in IDL?
By the way, I searched the documentation back to IDL 3.6 and could not
find any reference to a function or procedure called coord.

Now, I was just visiting with David this afternoon, and I
can assure you that David doesn't look a day over 40
*despite* the fact that he has probably written IDL code
nearly every day of his adult life. Could be the reason
he looks so young, although it seems to work just the
opposite with me. :-(
David is planning a strong performance in this weekend's
Bolder Boulder road race and he told me he is planning to
make a move up to RSI's B team next year! Now *that* doesn't
sound like an oldster. :-)
Cheers,
David
