It's a long shot, but I'm wondering if anyone has tried calling the NCSA
Java HDF server from IDL, described at

http://hdf.ncsa.uiuc.edu/java-hdf-html/jhs/index.html

The basic problem is this: I have large (hundreds of MB) HDF files at a
remote site, and I'd like to access them locally. In particular, I need
to be able to select 'slices' from a SDS.

Cheers,
Liam.
