C++ libraries like IDL/PV-WAVE? [message #1581]

Does anyone out there know of C++ libraries for Unix/X Windows that perform
the same kind of graphics and signal processing functions as IDL/PV-WAVE?
In our lab, we are concerned that [probably] no one else in our field uses
IDL, so we can't share our work.
