Then, why not throwing out the unused 50% and try make IDL as fast as it
used to be before?!

I use 100% of IDL but I had to give up 50% of my brain to do it. Not
a bad trade... :-)

Oh, what a question. I think Dave's secret is to use the part of IDL he
knows well. Like he said, that's 50%. Think about it: everything in IDL
can be done using just 50% of its capability. What if one day we learn
to use it all?... Maybe, when a new manual comes out?...

I ask questions about the 50% of IDL I don't know anything
about. But, fortunately, that part is rarely used. :-)

P.S. Let's just say I've been lurking on this newsgroup
for a long, LONG time! I've been thinking of retiring,
but I can't find anything I like to do any better, except
tennis. And I'm sure as hell not going to make a living
playing tennis. You could say an overhead is about as
much a mystery to me as an Eigenvector. :-(
