Automatic? No, there is nothing that is automatic.

If what you mean by PV_WAVE code is code that you have
written yourself, that doesn't use anything but core
functionality that is also in IDL (e.g. Plot, Contour,
Surface, etc.), then the answer is yes. In general, I
would say the answer is no. The programs have diverged
too much over the years.

Cheers,

My first question was clearly to short. What I mean is that I'am looking
for an automatic kind of program which can do the conversion for me.

The question:
Is it possible to call PV-WAVE code from an IDL program and visa
versa?
is still open.

Well, it is not as easy as it *used* to be, when IDL and
PV-WAVE were the same product. :-)

(This question always makes me think fondly of the days
when a bunch of us from the two companies would spend
all day long trying to bash each other's brains out,
stealing each other's customers, and then go out and
have a few drinks together, seeing who could tell the
biggest lies about the day's accomplishments. I always
won...at least in the way I told the story. :-)

But the real answer here is that "yes", you can
usually convert a program in one program to that in
the other program. Depending upon what kinds of things
that program is doing, you either have a hell of a lot
of work to do or none at all.

Cheers,

David
