I am considering using idl as a data browser front end (X-window) for some
data that I would like to make available to a small community of users.
Typically I envision the user would rlogin in to the host and automatically
be put into the IDL "system" with menus, etc from which they could
interactively look at plots of selected regions, etc.

Has anyone tried this, and if so what are your feelings about it? e.g.
interface not really easy to develop, too slow, is IDL robust enough to do
all you wanted?
Any comments are welcome!

Thanks!!
