IDL on a remote Vax window [message #166]

Has anyone ever successfully run IDL in a remote VAX window while
on a SUN workstation? We can run most of the IDL software without problems,
but always crash IDL whenever we try to use TVRD. We are running
IDL V2.2.0 and using the TCPIP transport. The error message we get is

IDLV2>a = tvrd(0,0,512,512,0)
Illegal unit size: 8 found in routine: _normalizeimagebits
%XLIB-F-LIBABORT, xlib fatal error
%TRACE-F-TRACEBACK, symbolic stack dump follows
module name routine name line rel PC
abs PC

000FC4C0
...

We don't run into this problem when going from Vax to Vax or from
Vax to SUN. Any suggestions would be welcome.
