I just posted a new procedure named SHOWIMAGE at

http://cimss.ssec.wisc.edu/~gumley/imagetools.html

SHOWIMAGE reads a graphics file in GIF, BMP, PICT, TIFF, or JPEG format
and displays it in the current graphics window (IDL 5.2 is required to
support image QUERY functions). 8-bit or 24-bit images are automatically
interpreted and displayed correctly whether IDL is running in 8-bit or
24-bit mode.

Cheers,
Liam.
PS: PICT support was added to SAVEIMAGE as well, at the same URL.

Hi there!

thanks for missing me ;-) Although I am not enjoying too much of the
rivers, the castles, etc. but instead renovating our new apartment, I must
admit that IDL is currently at least not the first thing on my mind ;-)
At my job here in HH I still have to get to the stage where I have data that
I can plot in IDL which might take some time. And the computer I brought
from the states is still in its box waiting for the table to sit on. But
I already bookmarked your web page, Liam, and promise to test your image
tools as soon as I can !-) Thanks also for the wgrib tip.

Best regards,
hope to catch up soon (there is a "catchup" button in knews, maybe I should
try this button?)

Martin.
