We are running IMSL/IDL 1.0 and PV-WAVE Advantage 4.2. Both cannot
read netCDF files written with IDL 3.x.
Does anybody know about public domain IDL source code for
netCDF formatted files?
I have had no problem sharing IDL 3.2 ... 3.5 written netCDF files
between VAX, Unix, and MS-DOS versions of IDL. I have also written
a program in C to write netCDF files using the Unidata-supplied
netCDF library from a non-IDL application; afterwards, IDL-based netCDF
had no problem reading it.
On the other hand, I think you can use CALL_EXTERNAL to call the
Unidata netCDF library from IDL or PV~WAVE, so there's an alternative.
But at least for the simple netCDF stuff I do, IDL netCDF works
with Unidata's netCDF library and C programs.
