Hi folks --
Has anyone used the NCSA utility "hdfed" to successfully edit
HDF files? The documentation
on-line from NCSA is pretty sparse, verging on incomprehensible, so I
can't tell yet how useful
this utility might be. (Any other doc available? ...And/or, if you
have experience with hdfed I'd
be interested in talking with you.)
I'm new to HDF stuff, and have read the IDL documentation on their
commands, including
HDF_READ and HDF_BROWSER, but those don't work with my version of IDL
and the
version of HDF files we use here. And even if they did, I'm not sure
how one tells one is getting
ALL the information in a HDF file, when trying to make simple changes
and rewrite to a new HDF
file. I'm also going to be needing to generate SUBSETS of HDF files --
with all the global
attributes and variables, but with just certain arrays truncated (to
focus on a particular range of
time, e.g.). I'd REALLY APPRECIATE it if someone could at least steer
me toward some good
ref.material on how one does these kinds of things (using IDL).
Thanks! (The other IDL/HDF
commands seem to work OK for me, so I've already written simple
IDL routines to edit global
attribute character fields, e.g.)
