A few years back, I hired Dan Carr of RSI to write a better 3D search
algorithm. Our application was to segment out a stroke from CT brain
images. The user establised a seed region in the infarct, established the
outer limits of the search, and let her run. I was under the impression
that the version Dan wrote for us was incorporated in subsequent versions of
IDL, but the SEARCH3D that came with my Windows v5.2 is dated September 1992
which would be too early for the stuff Dan wrote for us. It was pretty
impressive.
You may want to give RSI a quick call to see if Dan's changes are actually
in there.
