I am a very new user of IDL.
I notice many discussions in this group about pv-wave. My question is:

What is pv-wave, and what relationship does it have with IDL?

IHM is the contraction of Interface Homme-Machine. It's the french
translation of the english GUI (Graphical User Interface)

PV-WAVE is made by Visual Numerics, Inc. Their web site is at
<http://www.vni.com/>, with a PV-WAVE specific section at
<http://www.vni.com/products/wave/index.html>. I have a link to some
projects done in PV-WAVE at <http://www.ivsoftware.com/IV_SWPVWAVE.html>.
There is also an outdated FAQ at
<http://www.ivsoftware.com/PVWAVE_FAQ.html>, which will provide some info
about PV-WAVE's origins.

Can't help with the bonus question.
