How do I make a SUN shared library with gcc [message #1791]

I've got a bunch of subroutines written for gcc on the SUN, and I need
to make a shared library (.so) so they can be used with IDL. Can
anyone tell me if it's possible to do this with GCC, or must I use
Sun's CC compiler?
