I have a user that is having a very specific trouble with idlde, and I'm stumped
trying to figure it out. Maybe someone else has seen something similar.

plain IDL works fine for him (and IDLDE was working fine this morning) but
now, when he tries to start idlde, he get's the message window, then the
IDL Development Environment pops up, but none of the UI gets drawn
at it is unusable and the process must be killed to get rid of it.

It's clearly very user specific, since IDLDE works fine for the rest of us, but
I can't find anything odd in his environment. We're running IDL 5.2.1 on
HP-UX 10.20.

I had him log out and log back in, but this didn't solve the problem.
He did make one small change to a file that gets sourced by .cshrc.
He put a # in front of a line that defined an alias - but this does not
seem to have been the culprit. Well, in any case, we changed it back
to the way it was with no luck. The protections on all of those files look
fine. His IDL specific environment variables all look fine.
Other X applications work fine.

Can anyone offer any suggestions?

Thanks.
