then IDL startet without this pro-file.
Now the problem is solved!!
In "C:\RSI\IDL52" I made a copy of "IDL.000" to "IDL.INI"
Then I tried to start IDLDE.EXE
Instead of starting, it renamed "IDL.INI" to "IDL.001" ,
it deleted the contents of the file "REG.DAT" and killed the attributes
readonly+hidden.
I inserted the contents of a reg.dat-copy into REG.DAT --- and ---
that's it !!
(perhaps it has changed the some REGISTRY-entries?)

Hy, too,
'Configuration' file? Or 'preferences' file?
In case you have a UNIX version, the preferences file is in
your home directory and called .idlde, for the Windows version
you should look typically for an *.ini file (I have a Windows
version at home, but too far away from here now - maybe tomorrow
I know).
In any case, to me it appears that re-installing IDL would be
the savest way if this does not cause to much inconvenience to
you...
