I want to share output from a model with
some colleagues over the 'net. ION
(IDL o' the internet) seems to be THE solution.

Questions:
Is it possible to read in (to RAM) a huge file (~1 gb) once,
and allow many seperate webusers to get access to
it (through ION in seperate webbrowsing sessions)?

(I.E. I want to have it reside as a global variable
in RAM, since reading the data every time someone accesses
it through the webpage would be too slow.)

I've been reading through the ION manuals, and it doesn't
seem clear how to do this, it looks like variables would
be read in each time the page is accessed.

What I plan to do is to make a page where any number
of users can run an ion script through their browser,
to select regions of the data (and zoom in, change plot
types, change data fields, and create a jpeg of
the data, etc.).
The data will change every day (1 gb of data each day
at say midnight, that I'd like to read into RAM and
have it accesses for the next 24 hours by anyone reading
the ionscript webpage)

cheers,
bob
