Excuse me if I'm teaching you how to suck eggs, but have you
considered the order in which the objects are plotted? This is
determined by the order in which they are added to their enclosing
IDLgrModel and/or IDLgrView. From the IDL_Container docs:

"Objects located "behind" other objects in
three-dimensional space must be rendered before objects in
front of them, even if the "front" objects are translucent."
