I agree, IDL on a SPARC I was very good, it should be even better on
a SPARC II. IDL is in the process of adding the IMSL library to the
language, I don't know the time schedule on this but it shouldn't be
too long. Then you can have both packages together.

Why are you not considering IDL? I have been using IDL for years with
excellent success. In addition, it is very cost effective for workstations.
