Currently, we use IDL for visualizing CFD-data. In connection with a recent
hardware upgrade we ordered two additional IDL licenses. Unfortunately, our
local dealer asked 'Visual Numerics' for information about IMSL/IDL and they
told him, that IMSL/IDL doesn't exist anymore and PV-Wave Advantage is the
way to go. And they 'forgot' to mention that IDL by itself is still an
existing product :-( The end of the story: Our local dealer now has two licenses
for PV-Wave Advantage instead of IDL. He tried to return them to VNI
(Germany), but they refuse to take it back. Anyway, the customer service
of VNI (Germany) wasn't helpful at all. Maybe, they really need the money.

Now the questions:

Does anybody use both IDL and PV-Wave? Is it easy to write modules,
which work for both products or should we insist in getting IDL because
of the differences of the two products (we use the widget stuff quite often)

Is the VNI technical support more helpful than their marketing department?

Curious, Peter
