Which allows for some nasty tricks like this

a= 3
IF ((b= a*3)) EQ 9 THEN PRINT,'True'
PRINT,b ;will be equal to a*3= 9

Combined assigment and boolean evaluation.
Just remember, they can't replace you if
your code is un-readable...
